This is a place where I've collected together some of my work, be it overviews of past research activities, software scripts that may be of use to somebody or some short stories that I've written.
It's also a place where you can contact me. I am always interested in hearing from a prospective employer. If you think that you may have a position within your organisation that I may be suitable for, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I would be particularly interested in computational biology, neuroscience or electrophysiology positions.
In addition to research, I am happy to be contracted to develop custom scientific software solutions (usually in Python, but I'm flexible). As well as all that, I also do some private tutoring in the County Durham (UK) area, specialising in Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and A-level.
About Me
I was born and raised in the town of Grimsby on the north-east coast of England and I'm only slightly traumatised from the experience.
Having spent the best part of ten years at seemingly every university the north has to offer, I've acquired a BSc in Biological Sciences, a MSc in Informatics/Computation, a PhD in Computational Neuroscience, a love for all things sciencey and an unmanageably large student loan. I'm currently living in County Durham in the UK with my wife, son and collection of small, annoying animals.
Research
The research section presents an overview of my former research projects as well as my publications to date and a copy of my CV.
The bulk of my work has involved electrophysiology of the brain or heart, building models and conducting computational analyses.
Tuition
I've been tutoring on and off for over five years and all оf my previоus students gоt strаight A's in the subjects I tutоred them in (GCSE/A-level). Additiоnаlly, I hаve previоusly wоrked in а schооl (sо I'm CRB checked аnd аll thаt).

Software
My work as a researcher has always involved applying quantitative analyses to the biological sciences and this has involved programming in MATLAB, Java, and Python amongst others.
While I'm not allowed to publish some of the code I've written, and other bits would just be a bit weird without any context, I have put up a couple of the more self-contained scripts and you can check them out here.
Please do get in touch if you have a problem that could be solved by a custom software solution being coded up and require someone scientifically trained to implement it. I tend to do most of my programming in Python these days, but am very adaptable and my rates are competitive.
Writing
I also like to write. Mainly science fiction, probably because I'm starting to feel I don't get bullied enough...
